We believe that every organization working in humanitarian action, development, environmental protection, peacebuilding, and human rights should have access to high quality data collection tools.
Our team maintains a horizontal, creative, and flexible workflow to ensure that KoboToolbox continues to be an innovative global digital public good. We are guided in our work by our Board of Directors, whose deep and varied expertise provides the intellectual and professional backbone of all our work.

Phuong Pham, PhD, MPH
Co-Founder & Vice ChairPhuong Pham, PhD, MPH
Phuong Pham, Ph.D., MPH, is an Assistant Professor at the Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Director of Evaluation and Implementation Science at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI). She has over 15 years of experience in designing and implementing epidemiologic and evaluation research, technology solutions, and educational programs in ongoing and post-conflict countries such as northern Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Central African Republic, Iraq, Cambodia, Colombia, and other areas affected by mass violence and humanitarian crisis. She is the Co-Founder of Peacebuildingdata.org (a portal of peacebuilding, human rights, and justice indicators) and KoboToolbox (a suite of software for digital data collection and visualization).Dr. Pham joined HHI after holding the positions of Director of Research at the University of California Berkeley's Human Rights Center and Adjunct Associate Professor at Tulane University's Payson Center for International Development.

Patrick Vinck, PhD
Co-Founder, Chair & PresidentPatrick Vinck, PhD
Patrick Vinck, Ph.D. is the Research Director of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. He is Assistant Professor at the Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Lead Investigator at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. His current research examines resilience, peacebuilding, and social cohesion in contexts of mass violence, conflicts, and natural disasters. His research has led him to examine the ethics of data and technology in the field. He is the Co-Founder and Director of KoboToolbox and the Data-Pop Alliance, a Big Data partnership with MIT and ODI. Patrick Vinck is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at Tulane University's Payson Center for International Development and a regular advisor and evaluation consultant to the United Nations and other agencies. His work is informed by several years in the field and research on the multiple dimensions of food security. He has published in journals covering a wide range of disciplines, including political science, social science, public health, and medicine. He graduated as an engineer in applied biological sciences from Gembloux Agricultural University (Belgium) and holds a Ph.D. in International Development from Tulane University.

KAM Morshed, a Senior Director at BRAC, leads the AIM cluster, spearheading their anti-poverty efforts. He collaborates with government and non-governmental agencies to actualise BRAC's vision of a world free from exploitation.As a frontline responder in the Rohingya refugee crisis, Morshed represents BRAC in committees and forums. He plays a crucial role as a National Bhasan Char Steering Committee member, ensuring Myanmar refugees' secure and dignified relocation to the southern inland island.Morshed actively participates in the "National Committee to Prevent Child Marriage" led by the Minister of Women Affairs. He co-chairs the Bangladesh Multi-Stakeholder Platform for the "Water Resources Group 2030," a Government and World Bank joint initiative. Additionally, he serves as a director at BRACNet, the country's leading B2B internet service provider.In leadership roles, Morshed is the elected Vice-Chair of the National Executive Body within the Federation of NGOs in Bangladesh, the largest platform for non-governmental organisations. He also acts as the secretarial focal point of the CSO Alliance, an umbrella body representing NGOs, CSOs, Thinktanks, and more. Furthermore, he contributes to grant-making decisions as a member of the Governing Board of the Bangladesh NGO Foundation, the sole public agency for granting funds to NGOs.With extensive experience at UNDP spanning over a decade and a background in teaching decision science at the University of Dhaka, Morshed blends his expertise and unwavering dedication to creating a positive impact.

Bob Kitchen

As the director of the IRC's Emergency Preparedness and Response Unit, Bob Kitchen is responsible for all of the organization’s emergency and crisis intervention programs worldwide. He also manages the IRC’s 17-member Emergency Response Team, which is often among the first international humanitarian-assistance groups to arrive at the scene of a crisis.Mr. Kitchen began working with displaced populations in 1999 in southern Albania, where he managed a program distributing food to a quarter of a million Kosovar refugees. Mr. Kitchen went on to open new relief programs in Kosovo and East Timor for Medecins Du Monde France. Upon joining the IRC as a field coordinator in 2002, he oversaw programs in Sierra Leone for refugees who had fled war-torn Liberia.Mr. Kitchen went on to manage emergency programs in Iraq and Darfur before joining the IRC’s Emergency Response Team in 2005. He subsequently led IRC efforts to deliver humanitarian assistance to uprooted communities in Chad, Central African Republic, Indonesia, Nepal and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Before becoming the director of emergency preparedness and response, he was the country director in Afghanistan, a position he held since 2009.

Peter Bouckaert

Peter Bouckaert is a Belgian-American Stanford-educated human rights lawyer. For two decades, he led Human Rights Watch’s Emergencies Division, specialising in documenting war crimes and crimes against humanity around the world. He now works on community-led marine conservation in West Africa for Blue Ventures. Throughout his career, Bouckaert has pioneered the use of technology to document war crimes and ensure the security of activists engaged in such documentation.His assignments include investigating the September 28, 2009, stadium massacre and rapes in Guinea, the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah conflict, and the 2005 massacre of hundreds of protesters in Andijan, Uzbekistan. He has testified about war crimes before the United States Senate, the Council of Europe, and at the Yugoslav Tribunal (ICTY) in the Hague.Mr. Bouckaert has written opinion pieces for papers around the world. His work has been profiled in Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, The Stanford Lawyer, and The Santa Barbara Independent Newspaper.

Farayi Chipungu teaches at both Harvard Law School and The Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she offers courses emphasizing leadership, change management, and innovation. At Harvard Law School, she holds the position of faculty chair for the Adaptive Leadership: Lawyers Driving Change program, while at The Harvard Kennedy School of Government, she fulfills the same role for the Women and Power program. Additionally, Farayi collaborates with colleagues across Harvard's faculty to develop and deliver tailored coaching and capacity-building programs for various entities including governments, law firms, Fortune 500 companies, and other legal-related organizations.Before her tenure at Harvard, Farayi accrued over fifteen years of experience practicing law and working as a management consultant. In her legal career, she held positions at renowned international law firms such as King & Wood Mallesons and Slaughter & May, where she provided counsel on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and a wide array of corporate and commercial matters. During her time as a management consultant, Farayi spent eight years at McKinsey & Company, specializing in the design and execution of large-scale business transformations across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Her expertise encompassed performance management system redesign, strategy development, and coaching executive teams and boards.

Board MemberStephanie Kayden, MD, MPH
Stephanie Kayden, MD, MPH, is a retired emergency physician with a focus on international humanitarian response and leadership. She previously held the Brigham Distinguished Chair of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and was an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
As a core faculty of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, she trained professionals from around the world in global health and humanitarian work. Dr. Kayden has worked to improve emergency medical systems, humanitarian aid, and disaster response in more than 40 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
